Audience Feedback
Overall the feedback we received was very positive, with many picking up on the park and bedroom scenes were effective in our music video, as they have connotations of freedom, which is associated with the Indie Pop genre.
Audience members said that our use of costume and props linked well to our genre as the representation of the artist being independent comes across clearly and links well to our target audience. The use of editing throughout the video was considered successful as the use of straight, fast cuts fit well with the tempo of the song. Feedback we also received commented on the use of camera shots creating a quirky feel to the video and artist.
The audience also said that there was a clear narrative throughout the video, which allowed them to easily engage with the artist. The teddy bear was considered effective, as the audience understood that the bear symbolises Jamie, therefore understanding easily that it is the only thing she has left of him. There was a good use of mixed filming, such as stop-motion, as they felt it made the video quirky, therefore fitting in with the Indie Pop genre.
Some improvements we received were that the white sheet before the letters appear in the stop-motion sequence was on screen for too long and that the resolutions on the stop-motion scenes were different to the previous shots. We picked up on these issues as a group, however the use of having the white sheet on screen for that specific amount of time was to allow the stop-motion to keep with the tempo of the song. The issue of having different resolutions was intentional, as we have highlighted these shots in a different tone in order to create an unusually feel to the artist and to our video.
One audience member felt that there were too many shots of the artist on the swing and that she was still for a long time and that we should cut to another scene. They also felt that we needed more variation of camera shots throughout the video. We disagree with both of these points, as the artist is continually moving around the play area and on the swing whilst singing. As a group we also feel that we have used a significant amount of different camera shots and if we were to include more it would overcomplicate the video and disrupt the continuity.
Another audience member thought that the shot of the artist tapping her fingers on the wall was too long and the artist is supposed to be sad, so they were confused as to why she was dancing in the earlier bedroom scene. We also do not feel that this point about the artist tapping on the wall is valid as this shot is used to keep in time with the tempo of the song and to lead into another scene. The use of having the artist dancing in her bedroom links to the up-beat feel of the song, as we decided to create our video around the tempo of the song and not take the lyrics as a literal meaning.
